S&P 500 3478,73 +35,11.
A strange trading day, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq advanced strongly but under the surface, the participation was light : only 1679 stocks advanced on the NYSE compared to 2153 that settled down. On the Nasdaq, 1437 stocks finished up whereas 1924 settled down. The cumulative advance/decline line topped mid August and has declined since, pointing out again that all the action is concentrated on a few big cap names. Daily sentiment indicators continues to point out to excess complacency in the option market whereas the weekly survey among private investors is neutral. The risk has increased and our risk profile index is again above the 80 mark, a red area.
